Mission Objectives:
The stated scientific objectives of the mission were:
- Soft Landing the Probe: To design, realize and deploy a lunar Lander-rover capable of soft landing on a specified lunar site for in-site studies.
- Improved & New Payloads: Carry payloads in the orbiter that will enhance and add to the scientific objectives of Chandrayaan-I.
- Sample Analysis, Robotic Arm: The rover will be designed to move on wheels on the lunar surface, pick up samples of soil or rocks, do on-site chemical analysis and send the data to the mother-spacecraft Chandrayaan II, which will be orbiting above. Chandrayaan II will transmit the data to Earth.
- Return to Orbiter: Develop & demonstrate newer technologies, including those that will be useful for future planetary missions (e.g. Sample return).
- Docking Sys
- Earth Re-Entry
